Learning, Creativity, Problem-Solving

Outside of their normal classroom work, the mission of Central College Christian School’s arts, sciences, and extracurriculars departments are to encourage our students to Glorify Jesus Christ through studio artwork, performing on the stage, and experiencing music in many new ways. CCCS aims to maintain high standards in studio art, multimedia art, theater, physical activity, and music education while developing the student as an individual performer, and giving them the tools they need for artistic expression and problem-solving at every turn and stage of their development.

Musical Arts

Our goal in the music department is to provide opportunities for students to develop into young musicians by fostering a love of music, encouraging progress on their instrument(s), teaching for a better understanding of music theory and history, and creating a musical environment to worship through musical experiences.

To achieve this goal, CCCS music provides a wide range of experiences and opportunities. General music classes, which include music theory and history, are offered to all classes to enhance the total musical experience through the use of Orff type instruments (xylophones), recorders, hand bells, and boomwhackers.

Art is one of the most extraordinary gifts God has given humanity to manifest His glory on Earth. The goal of the Music and Fine Arts Department is to foster not only artistic qualities and character in our students, but also to encourage them to perform and create with servants' hearts. In music, CCCS offers violin universally in grades K-3 while our older students can choose from a combination of violin, band, and choir Performances are held throughout the year. Students may audition to take part in Musical/Theatrical performances.

Visual Arts

Art is one of the most extraordinary gifts God has given humanity to manifest His glory on Earth. While exercising their individual creativity, our students explore the principles and elements of the visual arts. They have opportunities to experiment with a wide range of materials, while learning about diverse artists throughout time. The program complements and enhances the academic curriculum. Our young artists actively participate in an annual, all-campus art show, showcasing their work.

Spanish Language Education

CCCS gives every student the opportunity to experience the Spanish language and culture. Classes are taught almost entirely in the Spanish language. Classes are a combination of learning through music, interpreting meaning through physical motions and reading, writing and listening to texts that are at a level that is comprehensible to the students. We also create unique stories in class where students are asked to input details that are meaningful to them.

Through games, stories, and songs, students are hearing the language and are associating the words with gestures and pictorial depictions. This leads to the true acquisition of the language. Students engage in the language through participation and interacting that is comprehensible to their level of understanding.

Our students also learn about the history and current culture in Spanish-speaking countries. They are introduced to Hispanic celebrations, food, music, living conditions and current events. The most exciting thing for the students is the feeling of success when they say to the teacher, “I understand what you’re saying!”

Physical Education

Formal PE is offered for all students. Our curriculum adheres to ODE standards and promotes sportsmanship becoming of Christian boys and girls. Understanding the link between physical activity and learning, students also engage in daily recess breaks.

Learning new skills takes determination. We know our value is not based on performance, but on God’s love. Therefore we can grow in courage and take risks, learning new skills with confidence. Class lessons are geared to target state standards for each grade level. The goal for physical education class is to be active, be kind and to have fun.
