Composer of the Month – Troubadors
Troubadors were French composers and poets that lived during the 12th and 13th centuries. These composers were multi-talented- they sang, played instruments, wrote poetry and stories, and performed skits.
Many of their songs were about the topic of love- mainly courtly love (or admiring a person from afar), but they also sang of loss as well. Troubadors were average people, not normally born to a royal family.
One of the most famous troubadors was Beatriz de Dia, who sang a sad song of how the man she loved did not love her back.
This month and next, each class will be working on writing their own music, poems, and even skits to perform for teachers and classmates around Valentine’s Day. Students are encouraged to use instruments and their imagination to make our Troubador compositions fun and enjoyable.
